Florida waters are home to 3 species of Mackerel – King, Spanish and Cero Mackerel have all been coming in hot to the docks at Pelican Adventures on the Destin Harbor. Come fishing with us on one of our fishing boats to reel in the fun with a mackerel fight!
Mackerels are plentiful along the Emerald Coast late March through November swimming the shallow surfs and along the reefs in the Gulf of Mexico.
Kingfish (King Mackerel) are the biggest of the 3 species and have a minimum size limit of 24′ to the fork tail, with a bag limit of 2 per person per day.
Cero Mackerel is the least common of the 3, but many say the best tasting. This mackerel has no size limit or bag limit.
The Spanish Mackerel, is what you generally think of when you hear “mackerel” in Florida. The Spanish has a min size limit of 12″ to the fork and a bag limit of 15 fish per person per day.
Join us on the water to catch a mackerel – call us at 850-650-3825 for more information on our deep sea fishing charters ranging from private and shared trips to multi-passenger fishing trips aboard our party boat. Book online by clicking here.

Closing up September along the coast, water temps are finally beginning to cool down inshore and the bite will continue to be great moving into Fall. The main species we target for Inshore trips continue to be Mangrove Snapper and Redfish. Lately we have been getting on the slot reds almost every trip in the bay and they should remain plentiful for a while! The next couple months are the prime time for targeting Redfish as they get ready for their spawning time they will be feeding more and more on the out going tide. The last week of September and first week of October is generally the best time to target the trophy sized ones as they are gorging themselves and majority of the fish will have huge full bellies. With the abundance of bait hanging around we are also catching a variety of other fish including Spanish Mackerel, Bluefish, Trout and Jack Crevalle.
Fish the Just Right with us at Pelican Adventures on a private Inshore fishing charter to explore the Choctawahatchee Bay and inshore and near shore waters aboard the Just Right. Luckily we were spared terrible weather in Destin by Tropical Storm Gordon! And the “calm” before and after the storm cleared some great fishing trips and awesome catch including this tasty Cobia. We are still blessed along the Emerald Coast to report clean waters free of Red Tide. Slick calm waters and bright sunny skies provided the perfect conditions for fun on the water and fish in the boat! Click here or call us at (850) 650-3825 to book your shared and private charters this Fall as we gear up for the Annual Destin Fishing Rodeo throughout the month of October.
The Amberjack bite has been great! However, its getting harder to catch a large Jack on the close up wrecks so you need to plan on a longer trip if you want to have a fair chance. Mingos, Triggerfish, and white snapper continue to bite very well.
